MCV

Red cell average

MCV is a medical abbreviation for mean corpuscular volume—a measure of the average size of red blood cells.

It appears on standard blood test results and helps diagnose various types of anemia: high MCV suggests vitamin B12 or folate deficiency, while low MCV often indicates iron deficiency.

Her MCV was elevated, so the doctor ordered additional tests.
