Legionnaires' disease

Contaminated cooling-tower illness

Legionnaires' disease is a severe form of pneumonia caused by Legionella bacteria, typically contracted by inhaling contaminated water droplets from air conditioning systems, cooling towers, or hot tubs.

The name comes from a 1976 outbreak at an American Legion convention in Philadelphia.

Symptoms include high fever, cough, and difficulty breathing.

The hotel was shut down after guests contracted Legionnaires' disease.
