Kirchhoff

Junction current rule

Kirchhoff refers to Gustav Kirchhoff, a nineteenth-century German physicist whose name attaches to fundamental principles in electrical engineering and spectroscopy.

Kirchhoff's laws describe current and voltage relationships in electrical circuits: the current law states that currents entering a junction equal currents leaving; the voltage law states that voltages around any closed loop sum to zero.

His work on blackbody radiation laid groundwork for quantum theory.
