Automaton's self-identification
*I, Robot* is a 1950 science fiction collection by Isaac Asimov, famous for introducing the Three Laws of Robotics—rules governing how robots must protect humans and obey commands.
The title has become shorthand for exploring artificial intelligence ethics.
A 2004 Will Smith film shares the name but diverges significantly from Asimov's stories.
