Havana syndrome
Embassy staff illness
Havana syndrome refers to a cluster of unexplained symptoms—headaches, dizziness, memory problems, hearing loss—first reported by U.S. and Canadian diplomats in Havana, Cuba in 2016.
Sufferers described sudden onset, often preceded by strange sounds or pressure sensations.
The cause remains disputed: theories include directed microwave energy, sonic weapons, mass psychogenic illness, or environmental factors.
Several CIA officers reported Havana syndrome symptoms while stationed overseas.
