Harriet the Spy
Harriet the Spy is a 1964 children's novel by Louise Fitzhugh about an eleven-year-old aspiring writer who keeps a secret notebook of brutally honest observations about her classmates and neighbors.
The title has become shorthand for anyone who watches others closely and records what they see: She's being Harriet the Spy with that journal.
