German community
Deutsche ethnic enclave
A German community is a group of people of German descent or cultural heritage living in a particular area, or a neighborhood where German language, customs, and institutions predominate.
The term appears in discussions of immigration history and ethnic enclaves: The German community in Milwaukee maintained strong ties to the old country.
It can also refer to German-speaking populations outside Germany, such as those in Austria, Switzerland, or historic settlements across Eastern Europe and the Americas.
