Geiger counters
Clicking radiation monitors
Geiger counters are instruments that detect and measure ionizing radiation.
They work by registering electrical pulses when radiation passes through a gas-filled tube, producing the characteristic clicking sound associated with radiation detection: The Geiger counter started clicking faster as we approached the old uranium mine.
Named for physicist Hans Geiger.
