Ganges Delta
Subcontinental river mouth
The Ganges Delta is the vast river delta where the Ganges and Brahmaputra rivers empty into the Bay of Bengal, spanning Bangladesh and eastern India.
It is the world's largest delta, a low-lying region of fertile sediment, mangrove forests, and waterways.
The area is densely populated and vulnerable to flooding and cyclones: Much of the Ganges Delta lies barely above sea level.
