East Indian
From the archipelago
East Indian describes people or things from India or the Indian subcontinent, distinguished from West Indian (Caribbean).
The term dates from colonial trade routes—the East Indies meant South and Southeast Asia.
In North America, East Indian remains common to avoid confusion with American Indians: an East Indian restaurant, East Indian spices.
In Britain, simply Indian suffices.
