Delirium

Delirium is a state of severe mental confusion, often accompanied by hallucinations, agitation, and incoherent speech.

It typically comes on suddenly and has a medical cause—fever, infection, drug withdrawal, or toxicity: The patient slipped into delirium after surgery.

More loosely, delirium describes frenzied excitement or ecstasy: the delirium of the crowd when the goal was scored.
