Decoration Day

Honoring fallen soldiers

Decoration Day is the original name for Memorial Day, the American holiday honoring military dead.

The name refers to the practice of decorating soldiers' graves with flowers and flags.

First observed after the Civil War, it was officially renamed Memorial Day in 1967, though the older name persists in some regions: My grandmother still calls it Decoration Day.
