DVD era

Physical media heyday

The DVD era refers to the period roughly from the late 1990s through the early 2010s when DVDs were the dominant format for home video.

It succeeded VHS and preceded streaming, marked by special features, director's cuts, and the rise of home theater culture: I built my film collection during the DVD era.

The term often carries nostalgia for physical media ownership.
