Croagh Patrick

Mayo pilgrimage peak

Croagh Patrick is a mountain in County Mayo, western Ireland, considered sacred in Irish Christianity.

According to tradition, Saint Patrick fasted on its summit for forty days in 441 AD.

Thousands of pilgrims climb it annually, many barefoot, especially on Reek Sunday (the last Sunday in July).

The mountain rises 764 meters and overlooks Clew Bay.
