St. Brigid
Kildare's patron saint
St.
Brigid is one of Ireland's patron saints, traditionally dated to the fifth and sixth centuries.
She founded a monastery at Kildare that became one of medieval Ireland's most important religious centers.
Her feast day, February 1, coincides with Imbolc, the Celtic festival marking the start of spring—a convergence that has blurred the saint with an earlier pagan goddess of the same name.
Also called Brigid of Kildare or St.
Bridget.
