Cold War bunkers
Nuclear-era refuges
Cold War bunkers are fortified underground structures built during the mid-to-late twentieth century to protect government officials, military personnel, or civilians from nuclear attack.
These ranged from massive command centers designed to preserve governmental continuity to smaller fallout shelters for families.
Many have since been decommissioned and repurposed as museums or tourist attractions: We toured a Cold War bunker in Berlin.
