Christ figures

Sacrificial literary heroes

A Christ figure is a character in literature, film, or other narrative who parallels Jesus Christ—typically through self-sacrifice, redemption of others, or symbolic death and resurrection.

The term appears in literary analysis: Aslan is the most obvious Christ figure in children's literature.

Characters need not be explicitly religious to qualify; any protagonist who dies to save others or offers redemption may be read as a Christ figure.
