false prophets
Deceitful spiritual guides
False prophets are people who claim divine authority or special insight but whose teachings are fraudulent or self-serving.
The term originates in biblical warnings against those who speak falsely in God's name.
It extends to anyone peddling false predictions or misleading guidance while claiming special knowledge: The financial gurus turned out to be false prophets when the market crashed.
