Cape Cod house
Shingle-style New England
A Cape Cod house is a style of compact residential architecture originating in colonial New England, characterized by a steep roof, central chimney, and symmetrical facade with the front door at center.
Typically one or one-and-a-half stories with dormer windows, these houses were designed to withstand harsh coastal winters: They bought a charming Cape Cod with cedar shingles.
The style saw revivals in the 1930s–50s and remains common in American suburbs.
