Buzzard

Large scavenging raptor

A buzzard is a large bird of prey.

In British usage, buzzards are hawks of the genus Buteo—broad-winged soaring birds that hunt rodents and small mammals.

In American usage, buzzard typically means a vulture, especially the turkey vulture that circles over carrion.

The word is also used disparagingly for a contemptible person, especially an old one: The old buzzard refused to sell.
