Billy the Kid
Notorious frontier outlaw
Billy the Kid was an American outlaw of the Old West, born Henry McCarty around 1859 and killed in 1881.
He became legendary for gunfighting and cattle rustling in the Lincoln County War in New Mexico.
Stories credit him with killing twenty-one men—one for each year of his life—though the actual number was likely far fewer.
His name evokes youthful recklessness and frontier lawlessness.
