Babinski

Neurological foot test

Babinski refers to the Babinski reflex or sign, a neurological test in which stroking the sole of the foot causes the big toe to extend upward while other toes fan outward.

In healthy adults, the toes curl downward; the Babinski response indicates damage to the central nervous system.

Named for French neurologist Joseph Babinski.
