B-52 bomber
Cold War bomber
The B-52 is a long-range American heavy bomber, in service with the U.S.
Air Force since 1955.
Its massive size and eight-engine design made it iconic during the Cold War as a nuclear deterrent.
The aircraft has been continuously upgraded and remains operational: B-52s conducted bombing runs over Afghanistan.
The name also belongs to a layered cocktail and a beehive hairstyle popular in the 1960s.
