American militia
Citizen soldier force
American militia refers to armed civilian groups in the United States, distinct from the formal military.
Historically, militias were local defense forces of ordinary citizens who could be called up in emergencies—a concept enshrined in the Second Amendment.
Today the term usually describes private paramilitary organizations, often with anti-government or far-right ideologies: The American militia movement grew after Ruby Ridge and Waco.
