4th century

Roman Empire's twilight

The 4th century is the period from 301 to 400 CE (or AD).

In Western history, it marks the transformation of the Roman Empire under Constantine, the legalization of Christianity, and the eventual split into Eastern and Western empires.

Century numbering runs one ahead of the year numbers: the 300s are the 4th century.
