yap
Small dog sound
Yap is a verb and noun for the sharp, high-pitched bark of a small dog, or by extension, annoying chatter from a person who won't shut up.
If someone tells you to quit your yapping, they want you to stop talking.
A yap can also mean a mouth: Keep your yap shut.
The word captures both the sound and the irritation it produces.
