writing off
Treating as lost
Writing off is dismissing something or someone as unworthy of further attention or effort: Don't write him off just because he failed once.
In accounting and finance, to write off is to reduce an asset's value to zero or cancel a debt as uncollectible: The bank wrote off millions in bad loans.
A write-off is something so damaged it's beyond repair, especially a vehicle after an accident.
