writ small
On smaller scale
Writ small means rendered in miniature or diminished form—the opposite of writ large.
Where writ large means something displayed conspicuously or on a grand scale, writ small suggests a smaller, subtler, or more concentrated version: The neighborhood conflict was national politics writ small.
The phrase echoes older English where writ meant written.
