wolf whistle
Leering two-note sound
A wolf whistle is a two-note whistle—rising then falling—directed at someone found sexually attractive, typically by a man at a woman passing on the street.
Once considered flattering or playful, it's now generally viewed as street harassment: She ignored the wolf whistles from the construction workers.
The verb is to wolf-whistle.
