wild pitches
Balls past catchers
Wild pitches are pitches in baseball that the catcher cannot reasonably be expected to stop, allowing baserunners to advance.
The pitcher is charged with a wild pitch when the ball is thrown too high, too low, or too far outside: He threw two wild pitches in the same inning.
Distinguished from passed balls, which are the catcher's fault.
