widescreen TV
Rectangular home theater
A widescreen TV has a display wider than the traditional 4:3 aspect ratio that dominated television through the 20th century.
Modern widescreen TVs typically use a 16:9 ratio, matching the proportions of most film and streaming content.
The format reduces or eliminates the black bars that appear when watching movies on older square screens.
