whistling kettle
Shrieking water boiler
A whistling kettle is a stovetop kettle fitted with a small device that produces a loud whistle when water reaches boiling point, alerting you to remove it from heat.
The steam forces through a narrow opening as pressure builds: I could hear the whistling kettle from upstairs.
Also called a tea kettle.
