welcome committees
Official greeting parties
A welcome committee is a group organized to greet and receive newcomers—new employees, incoming students, or visitors to a community.
The term extends ironically to any group waiting to confront someone: When I got home late, a welcome committee of angry parents was waiting.
The sarcastic use suggests the reception won't be pleasant.
