water gap
Stream-carved pass
A water gap is a notch or pass in a mountain ridge where a river or stream flows through.
The term is mainly American, used in the Appalachian region and elsewhere to name specific geographic features: the Delaware Water Gap.
A wind gap is a similar notch that no longer carries a stream.
