wastegates
Boost pressure limiters
Wastegates are valves in turbocharged engines that regulate boost pressure by diverting exhaust gases away from the turbine.
When pressure exceeds a set threshold, the wastegate opens to prevent over-boosting, which could damage the engine.
Internal wastegates are built into the turbocharger housing; external wastegates mount separately for higher-performance applications: The car's wastegate flutter produces that distinctive stutter sound on deceleration.
