viselike

Tight and unyielding

Viselike describes a grip or hold that is extremely tight and unyielding, like the jaws of a vise clamping down on an object: a viselike grip on my arm, viselike pressure in my chest.

The word nearly always modifies grip, hold, or squeeze.

Also spelled vice-like, especially in British English.
