virtual graduation
Streamed diploma event
A virtual graduation is a commencement ceremony conducted online rather than in person, with participants joining remotely via video.
Schools and universities turned to virtual graduations during the COVID-19 pandemic when gatherings were restricted.
The format typically includes speeches, name readings, and diploma conferrals streamed to graduates and families: Her virtual graduation felt anticlimactic, but at least her grandparents could watch from across the country.
