veto powers
Executive rejection rights
Veto powers are the authority to reject or block decisions, legislation, or actions.
The term most often refers to the ability of certain UN Security Council members to block resolutions, or to an executive's authority to reject legislation: The president threatened to use his veto powers.
In casual use, veto power can describe any ability to override others' choices: My wife has veto power over paint colors.
