unstressing

Letting pressure go

Unstressing is the act of removing or reducing stress—either the emphasis on a syllable in speech, or psychological tension.

In phonetics, unstressing a syllable makes it weaker: The second syllable gets unstressed in casual pronunciation.

More commonly, it means relaxing or decompressing: I spent the evening unstressing after a brutal week.
