Defies optical readers
Unscannable describes something that cannot be scanned—whether by a barcode reader, document scanner, or security system.
A faded label might be unscannable at checkout: The cashier had to type in the code manually because the barcode was unscannable.
The word also applies to faces that defeat facial recognition software, or to expressions that reveal nothing: Her unscannable expression gave no hint of her intentions.
