understimulate
Provide too little
To understimulate is to provide insufficient stimulation, whether mental, sensory, or emotional.
The term appears most often in discussions of child development and education, where an understimulated child may become bored, restless, or fail to develop optimally.
Adults can also be understimulated—by monotonous work, lack of social interaction, or environments that offer too little variety.
The baby seemed fussy because she was understimulated in the bare room.
