un-ionized
Not carrying charge
Un-ionized describes atoms or molecules that have not gained or lost electrons—remaining electrically neutral rather than becoming ions.
In chemistry and pharmacology, the distinction matters because un-ionized forms of drugs cross cell membranes more easily than ionized forms: Aspirin is absorbed better in the stomach, where it remains un-ionized.
Also spelled unionized, which creates ambiguity with the labor term.
