tug boat
Small powerful vessel
A tugboat is a small, powerful boat designed to push or pull larger vessels—guiding ships into harbors, through canals, or away from docks.
Tugboats also tow barges and assist disabled vessels.
Despite their size, they have extremely strong engines relative to their hull: Three tugboats guided the tanker into port.
Also spelled tug boat or simply tug.
