trunk lids
Rear compartment closures
Trunk lids are the hinged covers that close over a car's rear storage compartment.
In American English, the trunk is the enclosed cargo space at the back of a sedan or coupe; the lid is the panel that lifts to access it: The mechanic propped open the trunk lid to check the spare tire.
British English uses boot lid for the same part.
