tri
Before angle, cycle
Tri is a clipped form of triathlon, used by athletes and enthusiasts: I'm training for my first tri, tri season starts in May.
The prefix tri- meaning three appears in countless English words—triangle, tripod, trilogy—but as a standalone noun, tri almost always refers to the swim-bike-run endurance event.
