tree lawn
Strip beside sidewalk
The strip of grass between a sidewalk and the street, typically maintained by adjacent property owners but owned by the municipality.
Tree lawns often contain street trees, utility poles, and fire hydrants.
The term is regional, used primarily in the American Midwest: The city plants maples along the tree lawn.
Other regions call it a devil strip, parkway, or verge.
