trackbeds
Where locomotives travel
Trackbeds are the foundations on which railway tracks are laid—the prepared surface of compacted earth, gravel, and ballast that supports the rails and ties.
When rail lines are abandoned, the trackbeds often remain as corridors converted to hiking trails or bike paths: The old trackbed now serves as a greenway through the valley.
