track limits
Course edge markers
Track limits are the boundaries defining the usable racing surface, typically marked by white lines, curbs, or gravel.
In motorsport, drivers push against track limits to find the fastest line, and exceeding them—putting all four wheels beyond the boundary—can result in lap times being deleted or penalties: He lost his pole position for violating track limits at turn four.
