tower karst
Steep tropical landforms
Tower karst is a dramatic landscape where steep-sided limestone pillars rise abruptly from flat plains, formed by millions of years of dissolution and erosion.
The towers stand isolated like columns or clustered like stone forests, their near-vertical walls created as surrounding rock dissolved away.
Southern China's Guilin region offers the classic example, its towers rising from rice paddies and rivers.
