title inflation
Fancy names, same jobs
Title inflation is the practice of giving employees impressive-sounding job titles without corresponding increases in pay, responsibility, or authority.
A "customer service representative" becomes a "client experience specialist," or a "secretary" becomes an "executive assistant." Companies use it to boost morale cheaply or make roles seem more prestigious: Everyone's a vice president these days—title inflation has made the term meaningless.
